Man dies after being run over in Jabiru

A 40-year-old man has died in the Northern Territory town of Jabiru after he was run over by a car while lying on the road.

The incident was reported to police at around 8.00pm on 28 October 2017.

Police originally believed the incident was a hit-and-run, but later said a 19-year-old man called police after the incident.

'Alerting police to the fact that he had driven over a person who was lying on the road', Detective Acting Superintendent Brendan Lindner said.

'The driver is believed to have stopped to check on the male prior to calling police'.

Around 1,000 people live in Jabiru, which is in Kakadu National Park, around 220km east of Darwin.

The death is the third fatal motor vehicle accident in as many days.

Julie Morrell, 59, died after she was run over by her own tour bus outside a Darwin pub on October 26.

Jamie Aylott, 18, died when his car rolled on Stuart Highway on October 27.
