Renowned artist charged with murder

Three people have now been charged with the murder of an elderly Canberra woman, one of whom is a renowned artist.

Thorsten, 31, Bjorn, 29, and Melissa Beowulf, 60, are charged with the murder of 81-year-old Katherine Panin, who was the grandmother of Bjorn, and the mother-in-law of Melissa.

Ms Panin died after being found injured in her home in October 2015, and police originally believed she had fallen down the stairs.

Melissa Beowulf is a well-known artist with work on permanent display at the National Portrait Gallery.

In 2000, her portrait of Ken Done was a finalist for the prestigious Archibald Prize.

All three have been remanded in custody to reappear in December 2017.
